Anxious to see Sanjay Dutt, hundreds of fans had gathered on Tuesday and Wednesday, many dressed in their best to look good on television.
On Thursday morning, however, there were absolutely no fans outside the jail, barring journalists and television crew, to whom Dutt waved as he stepped out.
However, his 3-km journey to the Lohegaon airport took nearly 30 minutes and was full of high drama as about 15 media vehicles followed him and brought his jeep to a halt on many occasions.
City police personnel, who were on ‘bandobast’ duty on the road, had to physically admonish drivers of media vans who halted before Dutt’s jeep on way to the airport.
Dutt was again mobbed by journalists on the airport premises before being received by his brother-in-law, Kumar Gaurav, and boarding an 11-seater Falcon plane along with Nulwalla, Mane-Shinde, Kharbhanda and some members of a Pune-based business group. The plane took off for Mumbai at 8.15 am.
