Pune, August 26: High profile wild life lawyer from Jaipur Mahendra Singh Kachhawa arrived in Pune on Sunday to take up the case of Poornima, the elephant who has been kept at the Katraj animal rescue centre after she and another elephant Lakshmi were found roaming the streets of Pune, forced to beg by their mahouts.

Kachhawa has crusaded against actor Salman Khan’s poaching in Rajasthan. Poornima’s case will come up for hearing on Tuesday. “This case is good and we should win,” said Kachhawa.

Pune, August 26: A Senior jailor has been suspended and seven other jail staff have been issued notices for their “unbecoming behaviour” during actor Sanjay Dutt’s release on interim bail from Yerawada Central Prison here last week.

According to Inspector General of Prisons (IGP) Satish C Mathur, “The action against the eight jail staffers was taken as directed by Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister R R Patil.” Mathur, who was out of station, could not immediately recall the name of the suspended jailor or the other staffers.

New Delhi, August 25: Actor Salman Khan, who flew down to Jodhpur with his brother Sohail and lawyer Dipesh Mehta, was arrested immediately after de-boarding the plane.

A non-bailable warrant was issues against the actor.

Salman Khan had earlier told the media that he would be surrendering before the Jodhpur court on Saturday.

Addressing the media before getting into his SUV outside his residence, the actor said, "A warrant has been apparently issued and as per advice from my lawyers, I am going to Jodhpur to surrender."

Anxious to see Sanjay Dutt, hundreds of fans had gathered on Tuesday and Wednesday, many dressed in their best to look good on television.

On Thursday morning, however, there were absolutely no fans outside the jail, barring journalists and television crew, to whom Dutt waved as he stepped out.

However, his 3-km journey to the Lohegaon airport took nearly 30 minutes and was full of high drama as about 15 media vehicles followed him and brought his jeep to a halt on many occasions.
