It’s modern, contemporary and has a name that arrests your attention. Ask for the logic behind BPO, bat and cactus and the ‘Team Niche’ members, who are presenting the play, tell you to watch it for the answer. The first show of the full-length play in English, will be held at Nehru Memorial Hall, on Sunday, December 15.

Team Niche was formed a year ago by a group of 20 people, passionate about theatre. Since then they have been putting together shows at periodic intervals, most of them scripted and directed by the members, like Jitendra Pawar, Avinash K, Priyanka Sarin and others. Often they finance the productions too. This round, the team has pitched in for the script and direction, while seven of them have acted in the play as well.

“The play revolves around a young couple that is working at a call-center. Avinash and Shruti play the young couple, named Nilesh and Asha. Their mental set-up, lavish lifestyles and interactions are reflected in the play. Just when they are riding the wave of success, a string of incidents shatters their lives. What are the consequences and what happens next is for the audience to see and learn from,” says Pawar. “The youngsters today jump and grab high paying job opportunities with call-centres and the like. They take a big decision to travel the high-speed road, without realizing that a slight speed-breaker might disrupt their lives. So, when everything is bright and sunny, they tend to forget the dangers lurking in the darkness. That is the message we want to convey,” he adds.

Team Niche doesn’t doubt the potential of theatre as a medium, but they nevertheless hope that at a later date, they could eventually turn the play into a movie. They have two more plays-both comedies- in the pipeline, to be presented in January and March.

As for now, they are expecting the play to be an ‘eye opener’ for all the youngsters. Adapted from the American playwright, Neil Simons’ play written during 1960-70’s, which reflects the economic growth that America went through then, a must see play for individuals who are a part of growing India.
