The bridal season is upon us! So, presenting a style and shopping guide to flaunt your best:

Women's wear
For the women, there is a grand selection to choose from.

If you want to make a hip statement take a look at what designer Tarun Tahiliani has to offer. His collection is known for elegance and ultimate sophistication.

Sabysachi on the other had is full-on traditional from reds and oranges to peacock blue and maroons, his collection taps the rich culture of India to boot.

Reynu Tandaan works with sequins, threadwork, badla and art work. She has extensively used old Gota work akin to appliqué, to create different surface textures. She feels fabrics like chanderi, silk, brocade, georgettes and French chiffons are hot this season.

You might be lighter by more than 50k, but the effect will be well worth the money spent.

If understated elegance is your mantra, don't go beyond Utsav and Fab India. There are beautifully ethnic pieces of work there. From trendy block prints to woven tassars, silk and khadi in gorgeous colours, these numbers are sure to delight. They will be traditional, but without the shine and shimmer, which perhaps is more your style.

Jewellery

Trends come and go, but what remains forever is your personal style and taste. So if you prefer gold, while gold or silver, feel free to make heads turn this season.

From big ticket Tanishq to moderate TBZ there are options galore. The kundan choker, an eternal favourite with most women, is on the wearability list.

Go for traditional colours like red and green and just watch them transform your entire ensemble.

Men's wear

Time for traditional gear, my friends, so think kurta pyjama and dhoti kurta. From kurta sets in silk, khadi and linen, there is plentiful to choose from.

Bold colours like turquoise blue, deep purple and wine red are scorching the runways so they are good to buy.

Instead of a pyjama, go for a cotton or linen traditional dhoti this time. You will knock the socks off your sweetheart as well as your mother and am sure, you'll be red yourself after receiving all those compliments.

To add more style, wear a Nehru jacket over your kurta. But please don't trade it with a waistcoat. You will kill your own look; the waistcoat is a western outfit, which compliments suits, not Indian ensembles.

If you are feeling extra festive, wear a long scarf (dupatta) around your neck. Kurta sets are available from Rs 1,200 onwards, jackets for Rs 800 onwards and dupattas from Rs 300 onwards.

Footwear

Chappals or jootis look great with traditional clothes. You will find kolhapuri available at almost every footwear shop in town. Jootis too are available in different colours and designs. Maybe you would like one with silver thread embroidery, or gold.

Priced above Rs 800, they compliment your attire rather well.

Accessories for both

Women can give their watch a ditch if they are wearing bangles, unless it's an Omega gifted by their beloved. Men can bring out their sexy bracelets in gold or silver and uber-cool watches.

And most important, wear a good perfume. Nothing like a man or a woman who smells as sexy as he/she looks!
